Big Ten Champs!!

Wisconsin extended their seven game winning streak in dominating fashion with a 70-23 win against Northwestern on Saturday. It was the third time Wisconsin scored 70 or more in a game this season, UW's basketball team played three games this week never scoring more than 65. Wisconsin was dominant, racking up 559 yards on offense while limiting the NU to 284 yards and forcing SEVEN turnovers.

Nebraska Huskers earn Big 12 Title game birth with win over Colorado 45-17
Nebraska quarterback Cody Green played his ass off in the 45-17 Husker win over CU on Black Friday. Green completed 10 of 13 passes for 80 yards with two touchdowns and also rushed for 23 yards and touchdown. Green took the field with the sole purpose of leading his team to a victory and it was apparent in his play. He limited the mistakes while protecting the ball and made accurate throws when needed. He consistently got the ball into his play-makers hands, most notably RB Rex Burkhead.

Bo, Don't Apologize
![]() |
| Eric Gregory, Lincoln Journal Star |
Much has been made here in Omaha this week about Bo Pelini's behavior on the sideline Saturday night in College Station. Most of the criticism has centered around Bo's tirade toward QB Taylor Martinez. I'm here to stick up for Bo Pelini. Don't apologize for anything. What happens between you and your players in the confines of the game or practice is no one else's business. Taylor was out of line for accessing a cell phone during the game (if he did) and Bo expressed to him that he shouldn't have. Believe me after that Taylor, or anyone else on the team, won't make that mistake again.

Northwestern Has Been Badger's House of Horrors
![]() |

For the better part of two decades now the annoying little brother to the south has proven to a major thorn in the side of the Badgers. Starting in 1992, on the final day of season with Wisconsin needing a win to be bowl eligible, the Wildcats have beaten the Badgers seven times. 1996 was probably the most heartbreaking loss of all when Mike Samuel and Ron Dayne botched a hand-off and fumbled leading to a late Northwestern score and a win. Last year in Evanston NW eked out a win 33-31taking away any chance Wisconsin had of playing in a New Years Day bowl. Badgers on last years team remember the sickening feeling of walking off Ryan Field with a loss. "This is a game I remember guys (had) circled for a long time." said SS Jay Valai reflecting on last years loss.

Cookie crumbles for Nebraska against A&M, penalties costly
Nebraska loses on field goals 9-6 to Texas A&M in Aggieland. The Aggie defense was spectacular holding Nebraska to two field goals. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill played a whale of a game not making many mistakes and keeping his team focused throughout the game. Running back Cyrus Gray ran for 137 yards, bruising his way to a fifth straight 100 + yard game. The Aggies won the game but a little stink will linger from the penalties in this one.

Huge Test for Badgers' D
| Melanie Maxwell | AnnArbor.com |
The Wisconsin defense will face it's toughest on Saturday in the Big House. Michigan is ranked fifth nationally in yards per game (521.8) and 14th in points scored (37.70), higher than all previous Badger opponents except for Ohio State, 41.6 point per game. It makes me nervous when Wisconsin plays athletic running quarterbacks, they always seem to get torched for abnormally long runs. Lets hope they can contain Denard Robinson and force him or Tate to beat them with their arms.

Fast Huskers current team
Huskers strength and conditioning coach James Dobson said WR Niles Paul is the fastest guy on the Huskers, followed by CB Prince Amukamara, and then QB Taylor Martinez. Does this surprise anyone?
Obviously, I don't see practice and time trials but I've watched all the games this year in person or on TV. In my opinion here are my top three Husker speedsters.
1. Roy Helu, Jr
2. Taylor Martinez
3. Alfonzo Dennard
Your thoughts? What should we expect this weekend against A&M?

Badger: Michigan's defense is worse than Indiana's so you would expect Montee Ball and James White to have a field day with them. Wisconsin struggles in the state of Michigan. Wisconsin 28 Michigan 27
Bugeater: Michigan's No 100 ranked total defense will have a tougher time stopping the Wisconsin running game then Wisconsin will have stopping Michigan's. Denard Robinson is a super star and will make this game interesting enough to watch. Wisconsin 35 Michigan 28

Watson gives Martinez update
Shawn Watson on Taylor Martinez's ankle injury status, "He's like old Taylor," he said after Wednesday's practice. "It's good to have him back like he was before the injury. He's really close. I really don't notice anything with him. He's accelerating. He's making cuts on a dime. He's looked really good this week. It's like having the old Taylor back."
The Huskers are going to need a healthy Martinez and a little magic to get through the stout Texas A&M defense.

Is Bo Right??
I'm sure by now you've all heard Bo Pelini's comments concerning the fans during Saturday's game versus Kansas. I'm honestly surprised it took Bo this long to say something about the fans. I have been to three games at Memorial Stadium (by no means a regular), but that place is QUIET, he is absolutely right. I have mentioned this to Bugeater on more than one occasion, of course he disagrees.
My college football travels are not as extensive as I would like them to be, but I have been some major venues around the country. I have been to games at Camp Randall, Ben Hill Griffin, and Doak Campbell as well as various bowl games throughout the state of Florida. All venues full of enthusiastic ravenous fans much louder than those found in Memorial Stadium. People here in NE are starting to air their "I was told to sit down by stadium security" stories on the local sports talk shows. This is ridiculous, this blows my mind. Take notice when watching the game down in College Station, that place will be rocking.
Please don't take this the wrong way, this is not an indictment of NU fans in anyway. Living here I see that they have the passion and intelligence that matches and exceeds that of other fan bases throughout the country.Or is it a slight to Memorial Stadium experience, the atmosphere in Lincoln on gameday is awesome, and the Tunnel Walk is spine tingling, but after that it's all down hill. What are your thoughts Nebraska fans?

Why the Wisconsin Hate?
![]() |
| AP Photo / Morry Gash |
I just don’t get where all the hate and ridicule for Wisconsin’s win on Saturday is coming from? I’ll admit that I am biased and I’ll also admit that I didn’t see the second half of the game (son’s hockey practice takes priority), but how can you blame a team for going out and asserting their dominance over the opposition? Isn’t that what football is all about? Wisconsin fans have longed to see a team this dominant for years. After season after season of watching UW teams not play up to their expectations or play down to the other teams talent level and squeak out a win, it’s a treat for us all. Wisconsin’s victory in Las Vegas in 2007 was a perfect example, they should have wiped the floor with that team instead they barley make their escape with a 20-13.

Offensive Explosion in Madison
![]() |
| AP Photo |
Wisconsin’s offense exploded Saturday to the tune of 83 points. Third string running back Montee Ball lead the way with 167 on 22 carries and three touchdowns, including the 65 yards on the first drive of the game where Ball carried the ball all five times leading to a touchdown. James White returned to his normal back-up role and contributed his own 144 yards and two touchdowns. Scott Tolzien, not to be out done by his running backs quietly completed 15 of 18 passes, three for touchdowns. Wisconsin had the ball 12 times on Saturday and scored on all 12 drives, plus one interception return for a touchdown by Aaron Henry.
Lavonte David and Nebraska defense shut down Kansas, leads to Husker victory
| Lavonte David (LJ photo) |
The star of the game was linebacker Lavonte David, he was all over the field making plays, breaking up passes, sacking the quarterback, all which seemed to help take the spirit out of the KU offense. David tallied 10 tackles and a pair of sacks for a defense that had six sacks, intercepted one pass, and allowed only five first downs. David's play has been exceptional most of the year and he has emerged as a powerful force for the best defense in the Big 12 and one of the top nationally.

Ball Poised for First Start of the Year vs Indiana

Montee Ball followed up a very solid freshman year by dropping to third on the depth chart behind. You read that right, Ball was replaced by true freshman superstar James White. Ball didn't hang his hang and sulk and feel sorry for himself. He knew White was given the opportunities over himself because he was making the plays Ball wasn't. Montee rededicated himself to working hard and earning back the playing time he felt he deserved.

BadgerSr: South Carolina vs. Florida - Both Steve's, Spurrier and Garcia have a successful homecoming.

Burkhead wins game for Nebraska
Rex Burkhead played excellent in Saturdays 31-30 win over Iowa State, he carried the ball 20 times for 129 yards and two touchdowns. He was the focal point in the Wildcat formation and made several good reads, by either holding onto the ball or handing off to Roy Helu, Jr. His performance probably won the game for Nebraska.
Burkhead looked comfortable in the shotgun under center, he was a quarterback in high school and it looked like at least a couple of the Wildcat plays had pass options and may be something we see in the future. Most of all he stepped up and lead the team from the running back position, at a time when that's exactly what the Huskers need, leadership.

Wisconsin Looks to Get Healthy Today Against Purdue
![]() |
| Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images |
If you're a follower of pro or college football in the state of Wisconsin you know far too well that injuries have ravaged both teams. Coming of their well deserved bye week Wisconsin looks to get healthy today against a Purdue team with their own share of injury problems. Except all-everything Tight End Lance Kendricks and Freshman running back James White not to play today. That means Montee Ball will have plenty of opportunities today to prove his inspired play against Iowa was no fluke. Against a Purdue team that gives up 173 yards a game on the ground I see big a big day for John Clay and Ball.

Preview: Nebraska vs Iowa State team rankings
Nebraska has nothing on Iowa State going into Saturday's game, at least in regards to their position in the Big 12 North standings. Both teams have three conference wins and both teams book a trip to Dallas if they win out. What Nebraska does have on Iowa State is a lead in almost every statistically category that is tracked. What Iowa State has on Nebraska is a memory of upsetting the Huskers last year 9-7 by forcing eight turnovers. What happens in Ames on Saturday will impact the entire college football scene one way or another. Here is a quick look at the conference rankings:

This Weeks: The Big 12 Hates NU post

It was reported that painfully average Missouri head football coach Gary Pinkel has sent tape of Courtney Osborne's hit on Blaine Gabbert to the Big 12 offices and asked them to review it. I'm sure we'll soon be hearing that Ed Cunningham was summoned by Dan Beebe for his take on the hit.
Stay tuned to redvsred.com for developments and other Big 12 hate directed at the Big Red.
