RedvsRed Week 4 ATS Pickem

Each week Red vs Red will bring you our prognostications, plus one guest picker each week, on what we deem to be the most interesting games of the week (or the easiest pick).  A huge thank you goes out to our guest picker this week, Jay, from Turfburner.com.

Week of September 25th
UCF @ Kansas State -6.5

Bugeater:  Central Florida beat South Dakota and Buffalo.  They lost to North Carolina State, a school I've never heard of.  KState is 3-0 with a great running back in Daniel Thomas.  He will be enough.  Kansas State 37 UCF 25

Badger: Daniel Thomas will be too much for a UCF’s very average rushing defense that hasn’t faced a good back all year.  Kansas State 31 UCF 10

Jay: Kansas State will have their hands full with UCF freshman QB Jeff Godfrey, but UCF won’t be able to slow down Daniel Thomas enough for the road win.  Kansas State in close one, 28-20.

#8 Oklahoma -15.5 @ Cincinnati

Bugeater:  Oklahoma heads out on the road to face the 1-2 Bearcats.  North Carolina State beat these guys too!  Oklahoma seemed to have gotten things on the right track offensively against Florida State, but looked less than impressive in the Air Force game.  OU wins but doesn't cover. Oklahoma 32 Cincinnati 24

Badger: This Cincinnati team can’t run the ball, and Zack Collaros had no time to throw last week against NCSU, I don’t see that changing this Saturday. Oklahoma 35 Cincinnati 13

Jay: I’m not a big fan of road favorites covering, but I think OU does in this case.  Defense steps up after a couple mediocre showings so far. Oklahoma 34 Cincy 14

#24 Oregon State @ #3 Boise State -17.0

Bugeater:  Blue turf will be toughest road test for OSU this year ranked 88th in nation in points allowed.  Boise haters beware.  Boise State 44 Oregon State 24

Badger: Quizz and James Rodgers will be the two fastest players Boise sees this year.  Doesn’t matter though, Kellen Moore, Austin Pettis, and Titus Young are too good for this OSU defense that surrendered 28 points at home to Louisville.  Boise State 45 Oregon State 21

Jay:  Boise State is incredibly tough at home but don’t underestimate Mike Riley.  OSU keeps this one close. Boise State 30 Oregon State 21

#12 South Carolina @ #17 Auburn -2.0

Bugeater:  It took overtime last week for Auburn to beat a tough Clemson team.  South Carolina is 9th in points against and just doesn't give up points easily.  South Carolina 17 Auburn 14

Badger:  Is Auburn still riding high after their emotional overtime win vs. Clemson? They better hope so, because Spurrier is bringing a stacked team on the road with him.  Garcia is too smart and Lattimore is just too much to contain.  South Carolina 21 Auburn 17

Jay: This is a tough one.  Auburn is at home, but somehow, someway, Spurrier finds a way to leave with a win. South Carolina 28 Auburn 24

#5 Oregon -10.5 @ Arizona State

Bugeater:  I like the way Oregon looks and heading into their first conference game they are on fire.  They're hot enough to cook the devils, literally.  Oregon 35 Arizona State 18

Badger: I watched this ASU team play last week and they are FAST!!  Unfortunately fast doesn’t help you stop the run.  This one will be over before the 4th quarter. Oregon 48 ASU 13

Jay: Oregon has been unstoppable so far and I don’t think the Sun Devils have what it takes to slow them down.  Another road favorite here. Oregon 34 ASU 18

#1 Alabama -7 @ #10 Arkansas

Bugeater:  Defending National Champions are pick'em tell someone beats 'em for me.  Arkansas has improved with Mallett at quarterback and might hang around for a half, but in the end the champion kicks it in.  Alabama 38 Arkansas 17

Badger: Hands down the best game of the weekend.  I think it comes down to Richardson and Ingram.  You know Mallet will move the ball and score points, but it won’t be enough.  Alabama wins, but no cover.  Alabama 28 Arkansas 24

Jay: I can’t go with three road favorites so I’ll say Arkansas keeps this close, losing by a field goal after a late comeback effort. Alabama 30 Arkansas 27

Tie breaker:  Pick the UPSET of the week (must be an underdog and win game outright)

Bugeater: #16  Stanford -4.5 @ Notre Dame
No doubt Notre Dame got burned last week on a fake field goal.  They'll take out the frustration on visiting Stanford.  Notre Dame 25 Standford 23

Badger:  Northern Illinois @ Minnesota -4
Minnesota is bad!!  They gave up 24 and 41 points to MTSU and South Dakota respectively.  I see the Huskies running game beating up on the Minnesota’s 90th ranked rushing defense.
NIU 28 Minnesota 21

Jay: #16 Stanford -4.5 @ Notre Dame
I’ll take Notre Dame +4.5 at home against Stanford.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Brian Kelley’s squad bounces back after last week’s tough loss.  I’ll go with ND in the upset.
ND 27 Stanford 24

  2. I don't think this post mentioned NU at all, give these guys a break. Lay off the sauce so early in the morning....

For what it's worth I think Arkansas has enough in them to upset Alabama at home.
